4-H Cross-Country Runners Numbers Increase... 10/15/03 St. Croix, Virgin Islands--Never has there been so many school runners run the cross-country course at the University of the Virgin Islands-St. Croix Campus as there have been over the past three years. The 4-H/V.I. Pace Runners Cross-Country Series offers all schools in St.Croix the opportunity to participate in this, the traditional running activity. There are four races with the first three serving as build-up races for the final event on Veterans Day. The event is hosted by the UVI Cooperative Extension Service-4H Program; it is sponsored by The Boys to Men, Girls To Women Love Foundation; it is organized by the Virgin Islands Pace Runners and it is sanctioned by the Virgin Islands Track and Field Federation. This is the third year for this event, however, 4H and V.I.Pace Runners held runs back in the earlier 80’s when Ralix Clovis and Betsy Gladfelter were the top runners around at the time. Then the activity center around weekly Saturday morning fitness runs that were fun and fitness runs as well as competitive races. Currently the event is in its third year with an average of 90 plus children, young adults and adults participating in the four races. Many of the runners in these events have gone on to gain scholarships and completed college; some have represented the Virgin Islands in international competition including the Central America and Caribbean Cross-Country Championships, the Pan American Games and the Olympic Games. Robles, Taylor, Aurelien, Copeman Star in last week’s 4H Cross-Country… 10/15/03--St. Croix, Virgin Islands--Billy Bohlke, back in training after recently completed training in the U.S. Air Force and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and the most accomplished V.I. distance runner at the college level, was the first place finisher in the 4H-V.I.Pace Runners Cross-Country Series on Thursday 10/15 in the 5k race with a time of 17:02. He was followed by Juan Robles of St.Croix Central High School who topped the varsity boy’s race in 19:07. Sherma Aurelien won the open women event in 23:29. Julissa Copeman, CHS 26:29 was the first place varsity girls finisher. Troyson Raymond of CHS won the JV Boys event with a time of 12:29. Mackiesh Taylor of the Junior Barracudas Track Club was the first place JVgirls finisher in 17:16. Carlos Robles of Alfredo Andrews Elementary School, won the elementary boys race in 6:46. Allison Peter of the V.I. Express Track Club, won the elementary girls race in 6:49. All runners with the exception of Bohlke, won the previous week in their category. The
third race in the series will be held on October 29 at 4pm at the University
of the Virgin Islands St.Croix Campus. 1

October 8, 2003--St.Croix, Virgin Islands--The Third Annual 4H-V.I.Pace
Runners Cross-Country Series goes into its second week on Wednesday at the
University of the Virgin Islands, St.Croix Campus. Running to victory in
the 3.1 mile (5k) races were Juan Robles of St.Croix Central High School in
19 minutes and 43 seconds and Sherma Aurelien, Barracudas Track Club,
24:23. Troyson Raymond of Central High School won the Junior Varsity Boys 2
mile race with a time of 12:09. Mackiesh Taylor of the Junior Barracudas
Track Club was the first place girl in 15:43. Carlos Robles, Alfredo
Andrews School won the Elementary Boys 1 mile race in 6:40 and Allison Peter
