By: Wallace Williams Teddy Seymour...The First Black Man to Sail Around the World Alone....
St.Croix, Virgin Islands--Some things in life can only be done once.  Teddy Seymour, a 4 minute miler, national cross-country champion in college, Quantico Marines track star, Captain in the U.S.Marines, Vietnam Veteran, Captain of the sailboat Love Song in which he became the first black man to sail around the world alone, knows what it takes. Fellow runner and long-time library patron and friend, Ted often attended to the details of his upcoming voyage around the world in the public libraries of St. Croix.  His low-budget adventure would start at the pier in Frederiksted on February 26 1986 and seventeen months later end at the same spot, and just a few meters from where the slaves of the Danish West Indies were set free in 1848 by then governor Peter Von Sholten. After completing his voyage which would be designated officially as the first black man to sail around the world.  More information on Teddy Seymour click here... for first chapters of his coming new book... click here for information about The annual Toast-to-the-Captain Road Race held in his honor...
